I would firstly like to express my appreciation for mufon and the work you do. It's my belief that many people see these objects in the sky and are for whatever reason, hesitant to communicate their sighting. I was working a night shift as a waiter in Lake Mary, Fl. My coworker and I decided to go outside for a cigarette. At this time, it was just after sunset. The stars were coming out, it was a brilliantly clear night, and I started to point out satellites to my coworker, who has never seen them or known to look for them. It was for this reason we, at the same time, noticed a luminous flying saucer coming from the east right over the tree line. I was absolutely positive that I was seeing something I have never seen before. It flew directly (90*) over our heads and appeared to be pretty high up, but not at airplane level - traveling west northwest in a steady line going relatively slow (in my opinion). It appeared to be the size of an aspirin (if held up to compare). The light that it was giving off was more like energy than something being emitted from a bulb or beam or something like that. It was a brilliant display of comforting green and silver light, to say the least. There were patterns on the surface, the underside) that looked to be details of it's construction. From the time we saw it to the time it flew out of our vision, approximately 3-4 minutes went by. My emotional response to the sighting was a mix of pure happiness and falling into an existential whirlpool. I immediately hugged my coworker, whom I was not the best of friends with, and started thinking to myself how that moment in time bonds us for ever. For instance, I will never forget his name and face because this day proved to be a defining point in my belief of aliens, ufos, and coverup theories - all which I payed little attention to before this event. My sighting was special because of how clearly it was a disk flying gently through the sky. I felt happy and comfortable, like seeing this object made me feel this way. It also seemed like our thoughts could be being read or like they somehow knew we were watching them. I can't really explain in detail this feeling. Physicist Kenneth W. Ford, who participated in the design of the hydrogen bomb in the early 1950s, has published a memoir of his experiences despite the objections of Energy Department reviewers who requested substantial redactions in the text.
"Building the H Bomb: A Personal History"was released this month in softcopy by World Scientific Publishing Company. Hardcopy editions are to appear in May.
The dispute between the author and the government over the book's publication was first reported by the New York Times in "Hydrogen Bomb Physicist's Book Runs Afoul of Energy Department" by William J. Broad, March 23. The Times story immediately turned the book into something of a bestseller, and it ranks number one on Amazon.com in categories of Physics, Nuclear Physics, and Military Technology.
Significantly, Department of Energy reviewers did not attempt to compel the author to amend his text, nor did they seek to interfere with the book's publication. So their response here is altogether different than in the 1979 Progressive case, when the government sought and received an injunction to block release of Howard Morland's article "The H Bomb Secret." Rather, they asked Dr. Ford to make extensive changes in his manuscript. Depending on one's point of view, the requested changes may have been frivolous, unnecessary, or prudent. But there is no reason to suppose they were presented in bad faith. The Department had nothing to gain from its recommended changes.
For his part, Dr. Ford was not on a crusade to expose nuclear secrets. On the contrary, "I have bent every effort to avoid revealing any information that is still secret," he wrote in prefatory remarks. As one of the original participants in the H-Bomb program, he has exceptional standing to render a judgment on what is and is not sensitive....

Could alien machines be better able to adapt than biological visitors? They probably wouldn't be hung up with the prejudice of biology and culture, perhaps making them less judgmental and more open to other ways of being. However, their programming and base intelligence would probably be very different from ours. Sorting that out could be difficult for us. Also, our conception of machine intelligence might be very different from the type of advanced technology we might encounter. Our machines serve us. Alien machines could be self aware and have their own agenda, different over time even from their creators.
There is certainly plenty of fun science fiction on this topic. And all of this imaginative speculation would have positive and negative impacts if a real situation was to develop some day. There could be fear of machines on our part, thanks to the Terminator movies, the TV show Battlestar Galactica and other popular fiction that features computers taking over the world. This alone would force adaptive alien machines to consider human public relations and carefully study how we interact and how we would best respond.
It all comes back to motives. Intelligent machines, just like biological extraterrestrials, would have a reason for coming to our solar system. Perhaps they are designed to explore, much like our probes? Perhaps they are designed to make contact? We could hope that would be the case, because then the need to understand human culture could be built into the machine programming. Any help we could get in First Contact would be a good thing. If the machines were not designed to adapt or even care about human interaction it could be a mysterious alien encounter that we would never fully understand. And that could be the most frustrating scenario of all.
