We were driving home from work in Oromocto, NB, Canada, towards Jemseg,NB on Route 105.We got off work at 1130pm, so the approximate time was midinght, Atlantic time zone. It was fall of 2006. My friend was alone in a car ahead of me. Me and another co-worker were in my car. The road follows the Saint Jonh River,and as we went around a long sweeping turn, I saw a light in my mirror and thought it as a motorcycle coming up behind me. Then I noticed the light didn't follow the road,instead cutting across the corner of the river, and thought it must have been a military helicopter from near by CBF Gagetown. The light came closer, maybe 50 yards off the road into a farmers field and 50 yards up in the air slightly behind my car. It was close enough I knew it wasn't a helicopter, and I started to get a bit nervous. I slowed down to around 30km/hour, rolled down my window and stuck my head out to look at it, and heard no noticeable sounds. At this point I knew for sure it wasn't a helicopter.The light did not do any intricate maneuvers, it just matched my speed and followed me for 3 or 4 minutes. I was starting to get really nervous, and decided I was going to get out of the car and look at this thing. My co-worker in the passenger seat looked me in the eye, and told me "are you F**king nuts? Keep driving!" I could tell he was nervous/scared too so I punched the gas petal and sped off. Sometime as I was driving I lost sight of the light. I did not see the light disappear, but I was told by my friend in the car ahead of me there was a streak of light and it disappeared. After this I got to the little country store where my co-workers and I met to carpool, and asked the guy in the car ahead of me if he saw the light. He only noticed it as it was streaking away, but his clock in the dash and his cell phone clock were stopped at the same time (about 15 mins from the actual time). My car clock was unaffected.

I had no fear or trepidation of the event, a friend was with me at the time but he was driving and did not see the event. The encounters are largely in the Michigan-Wisconsin-Great Lakes area of the US where the author is based, and was the location for her first book on this topic, "The Beast of Bray Road, "and possibly this geographic localism may be one of the reasons why the subject has not been explored more widely.
There is a consistency to the narrative of the reports, which generally involve the witness(es) walking or driving along a country road usually in a forested area, and seeing a large animal, which at first they take to be a wolf or a big-cat, as there are quite a few native to this region. Suddenly the creature rises onto its hind legs and is revealed to have a muscular human torso with long arms, usually held out straight ahead, with animal-like claws, the hind legs of a large canine and a wolf's head on broad human shoulders. Sometimes, but not always, the creature has a tail. Although the creature appears threatening and sometimes approaches the witness, there are few if any occasions where it is reported to have attacked the witness.
In most cases these sightings are in liminal and marginal locations: roads on the outer fringes of metropolitan areas, riverbanks, marshy land and forest edges. Godfrey notes some cases which seem to cluster around a more recent aspect of liminality: the on/off ramps of freeways, which form a vague boundary between the modern world of speeding traffic and trans-continental links, and the world of hidden byways, abandoned lots and country roads.
Some of the reports seem to have associated physical evidence, usually in the form of footprints (Godfrey reproduces photographs of a couple of these, but the best one can say of them is that they 'lack clarity') and some ambiguous scraps of hair. There seem to be no convincing photographs of the creatures, and in some reports we have the classic instance, familiar from UFO accounts, of a camera being at hand but not used for some reason. However, unlike many UFO/ghost experiences there seems little evidence that these experiences are the result of hypnogogic or hypnopompic experiences.
It seems clear therefore from reading these accounts that the American Werewolf is an actual experiential phenomenon, and thus as valid as ghosts or UFOs as a subject of serious study. The problem is what some ufologists call the 'giggle factor' or the 'boggle threshold' - it just seems too silly to be worth the bother. I think the main reason why that's the case is that there is no immediate popularly acceptable explanation. With UFOs is extraterrestrials, with Sasquatch it's a previously unknown hominid, with ghosts it's the spirits of the dead, with werewolves it's... well, Lon Chaney really, and that is definitely beyond the boggle threshold.
Godfrey examines a number of possible explanations. In the course of her three books she seems to have moved from a 'misperception' explanation, through paws-and-pelt creatures, to some sort of spiritual existence, and is perhaps a little too quick to link the phenomenon to Native American spirituality. Obviously there is always scope for misperception when reporting fleeting experiences in unfamiliar locations, and a few of the accounts given here could easily be explained as such. Godfrey also looks at the possibility of hoaxing, by and on witnesses, and again finds a few possible instances.
In the end no explanation, even a sceptical one, really covers the phenomenon in its entirety, as is the case with any 'paranormal' phenomenon, and one just has to say, "sorry, I don't know". But one also has to accept that the 'werewolf' experiences of hundreds of people are as valid as UFO or ghost experiences, and that, despite Lon Chaney and cult teen TV, they cannot be confined to 'literary criticism'. --" John Rimmer."

I haven't been this excited about a spacecraft landing, well since way back in '97 when little Rover Sojourner landed on the red planet and into our hearts, while at least mine, never seen anything like it before, the thing could roam, get out and look for things and drill, anyways it was very cool. There are 3 major reasons why I think this is a pretty cool mission. I'll start with number 3 and work my way to number 1.
3. It is actually going to use rockets to land like a real spacecraft, not inflatable balloons. I've always thought what an undignified way for the little rovers to land, bouncing around, making them all dizzy and such. Phoenix's heat-shield will hit the Martain atmosphere at around 12,000 mph. Approximately 7 minutes later it's parachutes will open, then descent rockets cut in reducing the speed to 5.4 mph before landing on 3 legs, now that's the way to land.
2. Phoenix has a built in lab, and a neat robotic arm, get the picture? With its robotic arm Phoenix can dig down below the protective top soil layer to the ice water below, bring the sample to its lab and perform complicated scientific analysis to further NASA's overall Mars science strategy, "Follow The Water".

There is one advantage the little rovers have over the lander, lets say there is ice water 40" away from the lander and the lander's robotic arm is only 39" long, well it would suck to be the lander, the rovers would just rove over, but with the lander, it's not like wheels are going to pop out of the landing legs and then rockets pop out of the wheels, although that would be cool, unfortunately the lander is stationary.
Right now 3 Mars orbiters are adjusting their orbits to be at the right place at the right time to be able to observe and record the Phoenix landing as well as trying to determine the ideal landing site for Phoenix, even the rovers are helping out by simulating transmissions from Phoenix for tests with the orbiters.

NASA scientists last night unveiled compelling evidence of life on Mars.
A special mission to the Red Planet has revealed the likely presence of a form of pond scum - the building blocks of life as we know it.
NASA unveiled the results of the recent Opportunity and Spirit probes sent millions of miles through the solar system to discover signs of extraterrestrial life.
The results are so promising boffins have already planned a host of other missions to discover whether there is extraterrestrial life in the universe.
The recent missions have gathered evidence of sulphates on Mars, a strong indication there is water on the planet and therefore life.
Previous missions to Mars have concluded there is probably water on the planet.
But the NASA boffins said the recent missions have gone further than any others in proving there is life on Mars.
They were particularly excited about the discovery of a sulphate called gypsum which, it has emerged recently, is found in large quantities among fossils in the Mediterranean.
Jack Farmer, researcher at the Arizona State University, in Tempe, Arizona, said he was "optimistic" there was - or had been - life on Mars.
Another of the scientists Bill Schopf, researcher at the University of California in Los Angeles, added: "One, thanks to Opportunity and the rovers and orbital imaging it is clear that there are literally vast areas of Mars that are carpeted with various sorts of sulphates, including gypsum.
"Two, it turns out on earth there just hasn't been hardly any work done at all to show whether gypsum ever includes within it preserved evidence of former life.
"The age doesn't matter. We just didn't know that fossils and organic matter and things like that were well preserved within gypsum.
"So, three, it turns out that now we have made that first step we are going to find out how widespread it is in other sulphate deposits on earth.
"And those lines of evidence will then give us a way to justify going to Mars and looking at gypsum because it looks as though based on these findings that is going to turn out to be a really excellent place to find evidence of ancient life, regardless of age, if in fact it is there."
Five experts took part in last night's press conference to celebrate 50 years of astrobiology research.
Dr Steve Squyres, of Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, said the only way of being sure there is life on Mars was to bring back a sample of Mars rock.
He also said that the detection of methane in the martian atmosphere - as revealed exclusively by The Sun - raised the possibility that there was still life on Mars today.
"Methane is a molecule that should go away very quickly. We need to send a mission to find out if the source is biological.
"We also need to send a mission to return samples from Mars. That would enable scientists to find out whether Mars might ever have harboured life.
"If we are ever going to show if there was ever life on Mars, I think we're going to have to study samples back on Earth."
Almost 30 other NASA missions to discover life in space - including one to bring back rocks from Mars - have already been planned.
There are also plans to visit Jupiter's moon Europa to explore its deep underground ocean and a moon of Saturn, Enceladus, which spouted ice volcanoes.
Future missions would also visit comets.
NASA scientists have been searching for extraterrestrial life on other planets for some time.
Last November the space organisation launched the Kepler space telescope to look for Earth-size planets in this galaxy.
The telescope is on a three-and-a-half-year mission to find planets.
NASA has so far been able to download data - but many believe there are aliens out there.
British physicist Stephen Hawking said this week aliens might be traveling through the cosmos right now - but he warned they might have evil intentions.
