UFOs Over The Wanaque Reservoir: The Roswell of the Ramapos January 11, 1966 started like any other mid-winter day in the small suburban town of Wanaque, NJ. The air was clear and cold, kids were enjoying the holiday vacation from school, and residents of the Passaic County borough went about their usual daily routines. Little did they know that before the day was over something would happen, something fantastic and unexplainable, that would change the lives of many of the townsfolk forever. It all started in the early evening of that Tuesday night. Then as if right out of a sci-fi movie Cisco heard the words: "People in Oakland, Ringwood, Paterson, Totowa, and Butler claim there's a flying saucer over the Wanaque. I pulled into the sandpit, an open area to get my bearings," Cisco recalls. "There was a light that looked bigger than any of the stars, about the size of a softball or volleyball. It was a pulsating, white, stationary light changing to red. It stayed in the air; there was no noise. I was trying to figure out what it was." Wanaque Mayor Harry T. Wolfe, Councilmen Warren Hagstrom and Arthur Barton, and the Mayor's 14-year-old son Billy were on their way to oversee the burning of the borough's Christmas trees, when they heard the reports that something "very white, very bright, and much bigger than a star" was hovering over the Wanaque Reservoir. They decided to pull into a sandpit near the Raymond Dam at the headworks to meet Officer Cisco and get a better look at the 'thing.' The Mayor's son Billy spotted the object at once, flying low and gliding "oddly" over the vast frozen lake "like a huge star. But it didn't flicker," Billy told reporters the next day. Spencer and reservoir employee Fred Steines raced to the top of the 1,500-foot long Raymond Dam where they described seeing "a bolt of light shoot down, as if attracted to the water...like a beam emitted from a porthole."Patrolman Cisco, Mayor Wolfe and Town Councilmen Hagstrom and Barton climbed to the top of the dam to get a better look. "There was something up there that was awful bright." Hagstrom recalls. "We don't know what it was. We thought it was a helicopter, but we didn't hear a motor. It looked like a helicopter with big landing lights on. We got goose bumps all over when we saw where the hole was." According to John Shuttle, another Councilman who witnessed the UFO, there was no doubt about it: "It was there." He said. "I saw it, a brilliant white object, two to three feet across, and its color - no, not color, shade - it kept changing." January 12, 1966 One day after the initial sightings of the UFO, Patrolman Jack Wardlaw reported seeing a "bright white disk" floating in the vicinity of his home in the Stonetown section of Wanaque, just west of the reservoir. Wardlaw described the object as "definitely disc-shaped and at certain angles, egg-shaped." Sgt. "It glided, then streaked faster than a jet, " he told reporters, "and when it rose, it went straight up." Reservoir guard and former Wanaque policeman Charles Theodora and Sisco went to the top of the dam to take a look at the bright light. "We looked across the water and saw a cylinder shaped object," Theodora remembers. "It was moving back and forth like a rocking chair motion. We were astonished." A few minutes later the object shot straight up into the night sky, until it was indistinguishable from the other stars. Theodora said that he didn't hear a sound while the light show was going on. "I didn't believe in UFO's, I thought they were a lot of bull. And then I saw it. It was a breathtaking sight; something I'll never forget." India was startled by four reports last week which appeared to confirm the
rumors of a large underground base staffed by extraterrestrials in the Ladakh
region of the Himalayas.
In New Delhi, India's capital, a senior officer of the Indian Army told freelance
journalist Subha Jain that aliens were indeed in the Himalayas.
In Bangalore, a recently-retired officer of the Indian Air Force described the
underground base to his youngest son's elementary school class and said aliens
had met with high-ranking officials of India's government.
In Leh, a city in the Ladakh region, a local official confirmed that the Indian Army
had moved armored brigades into the area and was limiting access to civilian
residents and tourists.
In Joshimath, another Ladakh town, workers at an auto repair shop claim they
witnessed a strange broadcast on their Chinese-made miniature black-and-white
television set.

"CANADIAN UFO INVESTIGATOR BRIAN VIKE'S NOTE: "There are a lot of reports coming in from across Canada, mostly in British Columbia and Alberta. Trying to figure out what they might be.
"FULL DESCRIPTION OF EVENT/SIGHTING:" I had just pulled out of the carwash to the Heritage and Fairmont intersection red light to head south on Fairmont Dr. SE.
I was obviously looking south across the intersection watching the traffic light to turn green. From my view south to the south southwest some weird lights caught my eye.
They caught my eye because they didn't fit any pattern I could recognize such as aircraft etc.
I kept watching as the light turned green and I went south while still trying to figure the lights out. (and wandering all over the road).
I thought the lights were a reflection off an apartment roof, then I thought had some construction started and they erected one of those big cranes?
I kept watching the lights and thought I have to pull over and get out to see better. The lights were still visible when I turned right (W) on Avonburn Rd. As soon as I turn the corner I stopped in the middle of the road, so the tree on my right wouldn't block the lights and I jumped out on the car.
The lights were now passing the west and fading as they moved north. I saw the lights for a total time of about 25-30 seconds and only about 5 seconds out of the car.
I also thought that they must have been meteors, except they moved too slow, lasted too long and the 2 or 3 lights seemed to be following a single line with a dimmer line of light between them.
So, to sum it up, 2 perhaps a much dimmer 3 rd light moving form SSW to W then towards the north. Not over Calgary, but a long way off about 40 degrees above the horizon of buildings.
Bright enough to be seen well above the brightness of the city lights. I think you would be getting some reports from Calgary westwards.
Just really curious what it could have been and hoping others saw it.

Yesterday I had an onslaught of synchronicities involving an email exchange with a complete stranger. Lots of little threads that seem to connect up to everything.Sharing this experience will require some patience, because there are a lot of details, and the story ends up being sorta long.It started when I stumbled on a blog named, strangely enough, SYNCHRONICITY. The title seemed intriguing, and I scrolled down and read a posting titled The Owl and the Money Clip. The story was really curious, and well worth checking out. I figured I would leave a comment, partially to share my owl stories as a link to this blog (yes, an ego thing). I added a short comment, the thirteenth under that heading.I read thru the other comments and this one catches my attention.A woman named Stacey writes:... a couple years ago I had the privilege to spend time in a giant owls "nest" for lack of a better word, with over thirty barn and horned owls watching me...it was one of the most profound moments of my life!Over thirty owls? Now this perked my interest! This seemed curious because I had included a written request at the end of a a recent blog posting on my latest owl sightings.Just a few days ago I asked:"My question to anyone out there: Has anyone ever seen adult owls in groups of three (or five)?"So - I ask a question, and I get a whollp of an answer.
