The professional ufologists who proclaim the extraterrestrial origin of the Unidentified Flying Objects, UFO, are not working on a hypothesis but proclaim the alien presence in our planet as a fact. HYPOTHESIS IS DEFINED AS A SUPPOSITION OR PROPOSED EXPLANATION MADE ON THE BASIS OF LIMITED EVIDENCE AS A STARTING POINT FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION, but since there are no evidences about that ET presence, the exo-fantasists are forced to deny alternative ideas and instead of serious research, they give us a complex, contradictory and unreliable mythology that has nothing to do with the real world. Many things that are fundamental for a serious ufological research are also denied, and that is why the pseudo-researchers do not tell the public that at least ninety per cent of the sightings are identified as natural phenomena manmade artifacts or hoaxes. The other ten per cent remain unidentified for lack of information and research. This information changes completely the perspective of any serious ufological research and justifies the pseudo-scientific rhetoric and the mass of nonsense that we regularly analyze in this blog. That's why we work on the Psycho Cultural Hypothesis, the PCH. According to the PCH, belief in UFOs as a real phenomenon developed out of a pre-existent fascination with the concept of space conquest and aliens, and the belief in alternative life forms here on our Earth. The anthropomorphic alien is the new character. Science fiction, anxiety, personal fantasies and pop culture changed the old angels, gods, sylphs, gnomes and fairies into extraterrestrialsThe UFO phenomenon then evolved as any other cultural story. The extraterrestrial mythology brought us good aliens and bad aliens; all of them very human indeed, and playing a game of hide and seek with us. The close encounters of the Third Kind, beautifully imagined by Steve Spielberg in his film, are always a personal experience without objective evidences. The PCH sees UFOs and Ufological sub-culture as a complex phenomenon combining modern mythology, literary narrative, popular culture, and human psychology, which is after all the "GALAXY OF MEMES" as I wrote in this blog. We should also add the conspiracy theories and pseudo-science, including hoaxes. As all hypotheses, this one is A SUPPOSITION OR PROPOSED EXPLANATION MADE ON THE BASIS OF LIMITED EVIDENCE AS A STARTING POINT FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION.I think however that some of those unidentified flying objects or entities were occasionally seen in our skies from the beginning of times, but until this very moment, we do not know what these "things" are.
