There have been many sightings lately that could possibly be explained by such lanterns, but hardly all of them should be dismissed away with this as the cause. Locally, in Bucks County Pennsylvania, several news agencies picked up on a large influx of UFO sightings. The next day, some visited a local shop that sold Chinese lanterns and claimed that these had to be the cause of the sightings. Dismissing the sheer number of different sizes and shapes, including saucers, boomerangs and egg shaped craft. Ironically, the lanterns that they lit barely made it off the ground, just like their explanation for these sightings.
The bottom line is yes, Chinese lanterns could be the cause of some UFO sightings. They're an unfamiliar aerial phenomenon, that when seen from a distance, multiple lights can appear to be one large solid craft. The same investigative approach needs to be taken when approach every sighting. All conventional explanations need to be ruled out first, before claiming anything is extraordinary. It's truly unfortunate that the news and media automatically accept this as the cause without doing any true investigative work of their own.

around 9:10 pm my co worker miguel and i (omar) were trowing the trash outside getting ready to leave work, when we notice an object with light far in the distance, our work place is next to the fullerton airport, and we believed it was some kind of plane, but we notice that it was comming towards our direction fast and descending, my coworker believed it was some kind of paper burning but i noticed that it had a straight patern when moving forward, as it keep desending towards us i runned towards the building and miguel stayed i look back and saw the object flying over miguel's head and there was a noise like a jet sound, the object was about 30 fett tall in an hexagon shaped and had lights on front and back and it was about 8 feet wide it was flying in an standing position it look like the hexagonal ufo in the wartford city sighting in 1978 but all lights were redish/orange and it didn't leave any trails of any kind we felt scared, another thing is that it look like it kept descending but we couldn't see the landing site because of the buildings but it passed on top of the airport comming from the buena park city toward the fullerton down town side, it kept a straign motion, never moved and on the side it was dark it was like a standing hexagon flying in a descending way and it was flying in a fast speed

As we were gathering our thoughts after this experience we were all shocked and nobody knew what to think about it other than a UFO, about ten minutes pass and a second one rises from the treeline in the same spot and travels the same exact path as the first looked the same exact way.

I was flying west on an Airbus 320, probably over New Mexico. We were probably at least 25,000 feet up. I had a window seat on the starboard side and was enjoying watching electrical storms dance across the northern sky. The Big Dipper was hanging low in the northern sky and was visible most of the time with the lightning activity below. Intermittent patches of clouds sometimes obscured my view of the stars, but most of the time I had a spectacular view of the sky above a long line of storms to the north which stretched approximately from the mid-western states to western New Mexico. It was after a short period of cloud obstruction when the strange lights appeared. If you were to mark a spot midway between a line joining the two stars at the end of the handle of the Big Dipper and draw a line perpendicular to and up from that line, the lights appeared on that line at a point about a third longer than the line joining the two stars. They were slightly brighter than those two stars and appeared white. At arm's length they were about a pinky finger's width apart. I'm familiar with that area of the sky and knew immediately that they couldn't have been stars, planets, or any other celestial body. My first thought was that they were satellites, so I watched them for any movement. They remained perfectly motionless like stars for about a full minute. Then briefly for several seconds, my eyes were drawn to a few flashes of lighting below. Then when I looked back up, the two lights had disappeared. I continued watching that area of the sky for at least 15 minutes afterwards but they never reappeared.

Little green men are no strangers to Roswell, but now one New Mexico botanist says a little green plant has an out-of-this world connection to New Mexico.
David Salman said he was on a seed hunting trip near Roswell when he noticed a faint glow coming from what appeared to be a meteor crater.
He said it turned out the light was coming from a small patch of carnivorous cacti.
Salman said he found a cactus that eats bugs, glows and probably came to earth on a meteor.
He says he scooped up some samples to see if someone could identify them, so far no one has been able to.

Hi, We were having our tea last night around 5.45pm and I noticed the Crescent moon and then I noticed a really bright light that we thought was a UFO although with a little bit research learned was Venus as despite having a slight knowledge, of the night sky, I am no Patrick Moore. We got out basic binoculars and had a closer look at Venus. To our amazement,and only through our binoculars, we could see a saucer shape object hovering horizontally just left of Venus that was grey in colour and illuminated and sat stationary in that position for at least 5 minutes as we all took turns with the binoculars. As I took about a minute trying to take a photo using my iPhone through the binocular lense "Attached" when I returned to observe the object again through binoculars it was now on the right hand side of Venus and was no longer stationary and now moving,still horizontally,about the same speed as an aircraft appears to fly through the sky and then disappeared or fizzled out about the same distance we had first observed it left of Venus but now on the right. Strange thing is,as when I looked at the picture on phone,and as can be seen,the object appears to be pointing vertical and it definitely was sitting horizontal and stationary whilst I was trying to ready the camera as my wife and daughter confirmed. We are not UFO hunters and our attention was mainly drawn to Venus as it was really bright last night in the southern sky. My wife suggested that it may appear vertical in the picture if I maybe took pic at wrong angle,although the tree line is visible so that cant be explanation ? 1 picture taken on I Phone showing Venus and said object to the left and is also in focus quite well as we seen. Any help would be great to possibly explaining this for us as you couldn't see this object with the naked eye and I think I was lucky to capture the image through a basic binocular lense with the I Phone too as it is clear as looking through the binoculars.

I looked at the window where I live in south london (croydon) and I saw two objects hovering in the sky not very far, they where white and were emiting some sort of white "lantern" as if patroling the sky a few hundred meters in the sky. they stood there for a few minutes 3 to 10 minutes, then started moving forward slowly. ( i dont know why) I was very impressed, It was my first time i had clearly seen a UFO. I was thinking about filming It, but could not know where the camera was, i looked it with a binoclus, was a bright white light. then they moved very far from my window sight. It was 2 or possible 3 UFos. from that time, I noticed some times some lights flying around, that does not apear to be plane, since there were no strobe light, the green red wing light. UNC Asheville's Student Activities Office will host a lecture, "UFOs: The Secret Story," at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union, Alumni Hall. Independent UFO researcher and lecturer Robert Hastings will present a 90-minute talk and slideshow concerning the U.S. government's response to UFOs. His information is based on Air Force, FBI and CIA documents, as well as the testimony of 120 former or retired U.S. military personnel. The event is free and open to the public.
Hastings' lecture argues that the evidence gathered concerning UFOs confirms their existence. Included in the documents are references to UFOs repeatedly violating highly sensitive airspace over nuclear weapons sites and accounts of unsuccessful aerial interceptions of UFOs by military jet fighters. Hastings had his own UFO experience in 1967 at the Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. Five UFOs were tracked on the radar while he was present at the air traffic control tower. Though jets were launched to intercept, the UFOs performed a rapid vertical ascent and evaded the jets.
Hastings studied electron microscopy at San Joaquin Delta College, and received a certificate in materials science application. He also holds a BFA in photography from Ohio University. He formerly served as a laboratory analyst for Philips Semiconductors. Hastings is the author of the book, "UFOs and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites," and has lectured at more than 500 colleges and universities.
