Alternately, these events may not be frequent enough on other planets and evolution is slowed because there aren't enough mass extinctions to encourage diversity.

Even if the conditions for life are common, the evolution of human-like intelligence, the invention of radio technology or interest in the exploration of outer space may be vanishingly rare.

I was returning from the Jolly Sailor in Gunness to my house, which is just a short walk from the Jolly.

It was a completely starless night when I saw over the houses, in the direction of the football stadium, a large single bright star-like shape.

It gave off rays like a star, but was much too big and bright to be a star and was completely stationary.

I watched the "star" for several minutes before heading into my house.

I have never seen anything so big and bright, much bigger and brighter than a car headlights, but giving off the same kind of refracted rays. It was quite beautiful to see, but I have no idea what it was.
