Full Description of Event/Sighting: Myself and two daughters aged 19 and 15 have seen several sighting together as well as individually. One of their friends was also over at out house during one of these episodes. We lived close to a mountain and on several occasions we have witnessed two smaller lights shoot out of a bigger light that was amber in color. The two descended to the top of the mountain and hovered briefly before dislodging something from below. Then one could very briefly see a flash from behind the ridge. They would do this 2 or 3 times before shooting straight up very quickly and disappearing into thin air! Another night at the same house there was suddenly 25 or more really bright lights that were about 10 times the brightness of any star and they would flash and twirl around. This went on for about 40 minutes before they all stopped at once.
We moved to a new house and I would occasionally see a couple of really fast moving objects in the sky. Then one night we grabbed a couple blankets and lay in the yard watching the sky. That night we saw 35-40 very fast moving objects that would vary their activities from shifting from really high rates of speed to hovering to quick descent and ascent patterns and just plain disappearing. This took less than 2 hours. Most recently we (my 19yr old and I) experienced a simultaneous loss of time when we both awoke abruptly at 1:30 in the afternoon! We are both early risers so to be in bed until the afternoon was very shocking to us.
My daughter said her back felt funny and when I looked at it there were at least 50 poke marks in her skin. These healed and were not detectable the same night. I had 2 punctures beneath each of my eyebrows that were red in the center and swollen around the edges. The next day my scalp seemed itchy and when I scratched i felt many small scabs scattered all over my scalp. However we both felt refreshed and full of positive energy and a definite feeling of well being followed us for days. I don't know for a fact if we were 'taken' as there is no memory of anything. I do know that the circumstances were highly unusual.

The recent flood of UFO reports, alien abduction, exposed military reports and television shows on the subject brings a question to mind other than the existence of such things. Where are these spacecraft and aliens from? The history channel and news reports as well Internet sources, with credible witnesses, photos and video clips have made these things existence all but scientific fact. Unless there is some sort of huge conspiracy between the entertainment industry and the military as well as hundreds, maybe thousands of pilots and sailors. Columbus even had an encounter with a USO (unidentified submerged object). Apparently alien encounters and craft sightings have been witnessed as long as man has been here. So who are these aliens and where are they from? Outer space is the most popular theory for where and most would say outer space creatures for who. The fact that they make a minimal impact on us and that there is a lack of physical evidence is commonly considered by sceptics as good argument against the believers. However for an alternative theory of the origin of aliens and spaceships the lack of interaction and physical evidence is supportive. What if these craft and encounters are us humans in time machines taking tours of history. In the fantastic realm of time travel theory and popular fiction, time travelers have the responsibility to not cause disruptions that could be fatal to them and others (like running over yourself in the past). Thus would account for the lack of interaction. One story on the history channel included a retired military man that claimed much of the technology we have today he recovered from a downed spacecraft, fiber optics and micro chips naming two. This could support the theory of time travellers, the fact we can use this stuff. With more research and more witnesses getting older, even those sworn to secrecy, the question of if they are real will be replaced. Are they really aliens or natives to this planet? Last year, in UFOs: the forgotten book, I talked about Gerald Heard's "The Riddle of the Flying Saucers", which was published way back in 1950. I mentioned in passing that I bought my copy in a second-hand bookstore in Sherborne, and I recently acquired another obscure 1950s UFO book from the same shop: "Space, Gravity and the Flying Saucer" by Leonard G. Cramp (1954).
Cramp's book is quite different from Heard's (in my opinion it's a lot better - or at least, a lot less bad). Whereas Heard approached the subject from the viewpoint of a philosopher, Cramp approaches it from the viewpoint of an engineer. What the two authors have in common, however, is an astonishing self-confidence in making bold assertions about the nature of flying saucers: as seen for example in Cramp's "Author's impression of a sectional view of a Scout Ship".
Actually, Cramp is less interested in UFOs "per se" than in his own pet theory of interstellar propulsion. Apparently this "was originally conceived prior to the Second World War, and certainly long before the term Flying Saucer came into general use". But he quickly latched on to the saucer phenomenon as evidence that extraterrestrial civilizations were already using his hypothetical technique.
Although the details of Cramp's theory look na"ive to modern eyes-with terms like "Ether" and "Rays", which were old-fashioned even in the 1950s-the basic principle is one I wholeheartedly agree with. This is that, if UFOs really are extraterrestrial spacecraft, then they probably use a propulsion system which involves manipulation of gravity - and the intimately related phenomenon of inertia. Although commonly referred to as "antigravity", the neutralization of gravity is actually far less important for interstellar travel than the neutralization of inertia - which is the thing that makes it uncomfortable to accelerate rapidly or change direction suddenly. This is something that comes across very clearly in Cramp's account - as is the fact that a craft powered in such a way would appear to "defy the laws of physics".
Jon Downes, who recently took over as editor of "UFO Matrix" magazine, has been generous enough to allow me a "Science Behind UFOs" column. The idea of "antigravity" propulsion-being a hobby-horse of mine just as it was with Leonard G. Cramp-is mentioned in my very first article (in the current issue), and I'm intending to return to it in more detail in subsequent installments.
I came across a striking example of prescience in Cramp's book. One chapter, on the "Unity of Creation Theory", was written not by Cramp but by a colleague of his named Antony Avenel. Of this theory, Avenel wrote "I do not pretend that there is sufficient data available at present to prove the theory fully, but there are many indications that it is an anticipation of what will be proved by, let us say, the year A.D. 2000. The theory which I put forward is that the ether and space are the same, and that space is formed out of nothing by a grid of extremely high frequency rays (probably having a wavelength of less than 10-13 cm). Space must be distinguished from 'nothing'. Space-even if it is empty-possesses the qualities of length, breadth, thickness and time. 'Nothing' has no qualities whatsoever, and cannot support any material or ray."
Now "the year A.D. 2000" was quite some time ago, so has Mr Avenel's theory been proved? Well, no it hasn't-certainly not in any of its details-but in broad terms it does have some striking similarities to contemporary theorizing about the nature of reality. I recently read a new book ("Gravity" by Brian Clegg), in order to review it for Fortean Times". Among other things the book contains brief summaries of the various competing theories of Quantum Gravity. With regard to Loop Quantum Gravity, Clegg writes "From the loop quantum gravity viewpoint, the loops-the atoms of space-time-create the geometry with which space is built. [...] The loops aren't "in" space-time, they "form" space-time... If you had a region with no loops there would be no space and time in it. It would be truly empty in a way that the vacuum of space isn't. Without loops nothing can exist, no light can travel - a loop-free region is true nothingness."
Of course, the loops of Loop Quantum Gravity are of the order of 10-33 cm, which is a lot smaller than Mr Avenel's 10-13 cm... but it's a striking coincidence nevertheless!

UFOs Over The Wanaque Reservoir: The Roswell of the Ramapos January 11, 1966 started like any other mid-winter day in the small suburban town of Wanaque, NJ. The air was clear and cold, kids were enjoying the holiday vacation from school, and residents of the Passaic County borough went about their usual daily routines. Little did they know that before the day was over something would happen, something fantastic and unexplainable, that would change the lives of many of the townsfolk forever. It all started in the early evening of that Tuesday night. It was about 6:30pm, and the winter sun was already long gone over the western horizon, past the great Wanaque reservoir, and behind the darkened Ramapo mountain range. Wanaque Patrolman Joseph Cisco was in his cruiser when a call from the Pompton Lakes dispatcher came over his police radio. It was a report of a "glowing light, possibly a fire." Then as if right out of a sci-fi movie Cisco heard the words: "People in Oakland, Ringwood, Paterson, Totowa, and Butler claim there's a flying saucer over the Wanaque. I pulled into the sandpit, an open area to get my bearings," Cisco recalls. "There was a light that looked bigger than any of the stars, about the size of a softball or volleyball. It was a pulsating, white, stationary light changing to red. It stayed in the air; there was no noise. I was trying to figure out what it was." Wanaque Mayor Harry T. Wolfe, Councilmen Warren Hagstrom and Arthur Barton, and the Mayor's 14-year-old son Billy were on their way to oversee the burning of the borough's Christmas trees, when they heard the reports that something "very white, very bright, and much bigger than a star" was hovering over the Wanaque Reservoir. They decided to pull into a sandpit near the Raymond Dam at the headworks to meet Officer Cisco and get a better look at the 'thing.' The Mayor's son Billy spotted the object at once, flying low and gliding "oddly" over the vast frozen lake "like a huge star. But it didn't flicker," Billy told reporters the next day. "It was just a continuous light that changed from white to red to green and back to white." ]"The phenomenon was terribly strange." Mayor Wolfe would later recall. He described the shape of the unidentified object as oval, and estimated it to be between two and nine feet in diameter. The next thing that officer Cisco remembers is his patrol car's radio "going bananas," as calls from all over a 20-mile radius flooded into the police headquarters. Cisco radioed Officer George Dykman, who was on patrol nearby. Just as Dykman received Cisco's message, two teenagers came running up to his patrol car frantically pointing at the sky and shouting "Look, look!" At that moment Wanaque Civil Defense Director Bentley Spencer drove up with CD member Richard Vrooman. "The Police radios are all jammed up!" Spencer said excitedly. Dykman and Spencer gaped at the sky along with Michael Sloat, 16, and Peter Melegrae, 15. "What the heck is it?" Dykman wondered out loud. "Never seen anything like it in my life." Back at the sandpit Joseph Cisco's radio crackled as another unbelievable message came across the airwaves: "Something's burning a hole in the ice! Something with a bright light on it, going up and down!" Then another transmission fought its way through the din: "Oh boy! Something just landed in front of the dam!" Spencer and reservoir employee Fred Steines raced to the top of the 1,500-foot long Raymond Dam where they described seeing "a bolt of light shoot down, as if attracted to the water...like a beam emitted from a porthole."Patrolman Cisco, Mayor Wolfe and Town Councilmen Hagstrom and Barton climbed to the top of the dam to get a better look. "There was something up there that was awful bright." Hagstrom recalls. "We don't know what it was. We thought it was a helicopter, but we didn't hear a motor. It looked like a helicopter with big landing lights on. We got goose bumps all over when we saw where the hole was." According to John Shuttle, another Councilman who witnessed the UFO, there was no doubt about it: "It was there." He said. "I saw it, a brilliant white object, two to three feet across, and its color - no, not color, shade - it kept changing." January 12, 1966 One day after the initial sightings of the UFO, Patrolman Jack Wardlaw reported seeing a "bright white disk" floating in the vicinity of his home in the Stonetown section of Wanaque, just west of the reservoir. "It seemed like only a block away, above Lilly Mountain, maybe 1,000 feet up," Wardlaw said. "Don't ask me what it was. But I do know it wasn't any helicopter, plane, or comet. It shot laterally right and left. It stopped. It moved up straight. And then it moved down and disappeared in the direction of Ringwood to the north." Wardlaw described the object as "definitely disc-shaped and at certain angles, egg-shaped." Sgt. David Sisco said that he was on patrol at about 6:30 that evening when the UFO noiselessly hovered into view. "It glided, then streaked faster than a jet, " he told reporters, "and when it rose, it went straight up." Reservoir guard and former Wanaque policeman Charles Theodora and Sisco went to the top of the dam to take a look at the bright light. "We looked across the water and saw a cylinder shaped object," Theodora remembers. "It was moving back and forth like a rocking chair motion. We were astonished." A few minutes later the object shot straight up into the night sky, until it was indistinguishable from the other stars. Theodora said that he didn't hear a sound while the light show was going on. "I didn't believe in UFO's, I thought they were a lot of bull. And then I saw it. It was a breathtaking sight; something I'll never forget." After the January 1966 sightings, radar was installed atop the reservoir dam.
