Robert Hastings response:
"Why should I, Tim? It would be a waste of my time. You are incapable of objectively evaluating the data you are presented with. For example, your starting position is that I am "using my ex-military sources to make money" when, in reality, they are my most ardent supporters. Did you see me holding a gun to the heads of the guys who participated in my press conference?!"Your input and, ahem, "insights" just go downhill from there. I will respond on a case-by-case basis to your posts, when it suits me and I am in the mood."
So, Robert's only weak and impotent answer is..."You are incapable of objectively evaluating the data you are presented"...Ninety five percent of this blog's content has been dedicated towards evaluating the data that was "presented" to me, plus the added value of my experience with the Minuteman weapon system. I've painstakingly broken down the Echo incident into numerous subsections so as to look at all the different layers of strata formulating an ongoing basis for my eventual final conclusion and this evaluation was accomplished in broad daylight for all to see...total transparency.
Each segment of my research was presented on my blog. I provided what resources that was used. For the most part I had used the very same data that Hastings had used to shore up his conclusion. In the case of using my missile crew experiences, I had provided the readers with an in-depth explanation. And throughout this transparent process, not one word of critique from Hastings. Why was that? Could it be for the simple reason that he had no solid foundation to do so?
Here is a classic Hastings trait (one of many), the art of deflection..."For example, your starting position is that I am "using my ex-military sources to make money"...No Robert, that was not my starting position. This was my actual starting position:

5. Walter Figel's perceived reluctance to publicly support Hastings' UFO theory, as evidence by, his absence from the D.C press conference, lack of an affidavit affirming his statements.
6. Eric Carlson's strong denial of receiving any UFO reports from security personnel.
7. No intercept missions flown by the Montana National Guard against any unknown radar contacts.
8. Minuteman LF design of connectivity isolation precludes any one event (UFO included) from affecting the remaining ICBMs in a given flight.
9. Echo was a flight specific event with no other adjoining flight effected
10. The only plausible UFO scenario would have been a UFO over/near Echo's LCF/LCC. This never occurred and no reports or rumors ever comes close to supporting this scenario.
11. The Boeing ECP and final installation of EMP suppression fixes resulting in no Echo-like situation from ever happening again for all SAC missile wings (Minuteman and Titan).
So as can be seen, Hastings assertion of my being"...incapable of objectively evaluating the data you are presented with"...is a severe attempt at deflecting away from from the question put to him. Notice that he provides no examples to back his assertion.
I did respond to Hastings' comment, and as of this date, Frank Warren has not posted it on his site. But I'm sure that at a minimum, Frank has relayed it to Hastings. I'm assuming that Frank thought my comment to be a personal attack...Frank tends to frown on those sorts of things...except for Robert's attacks of course. Par for the course, but it's Frank's site and his rules and that's the way it is.

There is an organized method of confirmation and disclosure that answers many questions that would be raised by such a discovery. Who should be notified first? How should the announcement be made to the public?

Direct First Contact is a challenge, because it could happen in a multitude of ways. That's why I am proposing a relatively simple approach. Use a dramatic First Contact event, such as an extraterrestrial craft flying over a city, to leverage the news media and use the world-wide communication system to spread the word. Within minutes in some locations, and hours in others, most of the world population could watch or listen to coverage of First Contact. This would provide a direct introduction to the entire planet. A SETI based approach would not work with a Direct First Contact scenario. All of the bureaucracy that supports scientists would prove cumbersome and ineffective in Direct First Contact.
There needs to be a clear path and a simple process in a Direct First contact event. It needs to operate entirely outside the system of government and science at first, and then bring those entities into the process soon thereafter. In essence the extraterrestrial visitors need to control First Contact. If not the process becomes tarnished by government self-interest and subject to all sorts of outside influence. We have a robust media and communications sharing network on this planet that can allow an extraterrestrial group to speak to the world directly. It would only require a simple, one-day, process to put it to work and make that big introduction.

At the conference he was presenting his dissertation work on the computational models of trust. I didn't get a chance to see his poster, but he told me a bit about his research in person and I think it is fascinating that he is using data about trust - literally millions of data points - from online gamers and how they are interacting with each other. He mentioned the concept of "gold-farming" - where people hire others to play the lower levels of the games - which are usually relatively boring and repetitive. The structure of current games is such that you have to spend a considerable amount of time at these lower levels to get to the more rewarding sections of the game. And apparently, you can find a large number of these workers in the developing world, especially China, who can play for richer clients from the developed world. This by in itself is very interesting (and also sad...), but you can imagine that this makes the work on trust quite interesting, as one can potentially detect differences in patterns of those who are playing for themselves versus "gold-farmers". If we detect large amounts of oxygen then that may be a good sign for the existence of life there (it is hard to get sizable amount of oxygen into the atmosphere without living organisms. Blue-green algae did the dirty work for us on our own planet).Then there were three talks on the implications on religion of the possible detection of extra terrestrial intelligence. Only monotheistic faiths were represented here. Howard Smith presented the Jewish view (well kind-of), and overall believed that salvation is available to all, whether they are descendents of Adam or not. However, he was passionate about the fact, that for all intent and purposes, we are indeed alone (i.e. there are not many intelligent life-forms in the universe, if any) - and he wanted to focus on the question: What does the absence of extraterrestrial intelligence means for humans? If this is indeed the case, then he inferred that Earth can perhaps be considered the "spiritual center of the universe". His talk was provocative and definitely spread the spectrum of available views - from his complete pessimism to the absolute optimism of Seth Shostak. However, Howard also gave couple of problematic answers in the Q&A - that just showed that he had already made up his mind.For example, he was asked if the discovery of new planets (especially the detection of Earths and Super-Earths by Kepler) improve the odds in the Drake Equation (a set of variables that allow us to think about the number of communicating intelligent civilizations out there). In his reply, he focused only on the confirmed detections (Kepler's conformations will take a few years) and pointed out that most of those are weird solar systems - with large Jupiter sized planets with orbits closer than Mercury, and many of those having highly elliptical orbits. Thus, in his opinion, this further reduces the odds in the Drake equation. His statement is technically correct - but misleading in reality. The fact that most of the confirmed solar systems (again - these are non-Kepler planets) are weird has to do with our detection techniques - which are sensitive to the presence planets close to the star and/or having large elliptical orbits. This does not tell us any thing about the presence or absence of smaller planets. This is an important disclaimer that he did not add. The technique used by Kepler can detect smaller planets, and indeed, its earlier candidates include several Earths and Super-Earths - including some orbiting at a distance where water can exist in liquid form on the surface. So even if one says that the odds in the Drake equation have not really improved, it is really hard to argue that the odds have actually decreased.Jennifer Wiseman followed Howard Smith and presented a talk on The Uniqueness of Earth and the Significance of Life in Christian Perspectives. Her main point was that the discovery of extraterrestrial life is unlikely to cause a global crisis of faith and she cited a 2009 survey of opinions of religious scholars conducted by Ted Peters. She also quoted a number of Catholic theologians and Protestant scholars who also feel that the discovery of extraterrestrial intelligence is not going to impact religion - Christianity in this particular case. However, towards the end of the talk, she also brought up challenges associated with the Christ's role in salvation for these extraterrestrial beings. In particular, she cited Paul Davies (she did add a disclaimer that Davies presents his view-points from an agnostic perspective), who thinks that a "second genesis" will be an enormous challenge for religions (Nidhal also had an earlier post about it). It was an interesting talk and she ended with listing a set of serious questions that we still have to grapple with.The panel did not have a break in its 3-hour session. But this is not a panel, and we can take a break. In the second part I will talk about Nidhal's presentation of Islamic perspectives on ET and Seth Shostak's search for ET signals. As you can see, I loved this session - and I think it could have easily gone for another 3-hours!

UFO SIGHTING IN MOUND, MINNESOTA ON JULY 4TH 2013 - MINNESOTA SIGHTING JULY 4TH 2013
Just after midnight July 4th, I noticed a light out side my window in the distance. I went outside to check it out. It was to my south and fairly low to the horizon. It was stationary and at first glance looked like a star, but I noticed it seem to change color and pulsate. I went and got my son and some binoculars. My son saw it as well and we both thought it could be some sort of unidentified flying object. Through the binocs you could tell it was changing colors, pulsing, and stationary and seemed closer and larger than the stars.

I knew, yes I saw the especially thing last night in Montreal, April 1st 2012 at express 2:15 a.m. It was busy from southwest to northeast. It had no lights and it ready no concrete. At one conceive it was in shape suspended, as if not busy at all. Furthermore it started busy at a very staid speed and it seems to maintain traveled a brawny wait from considering I saw it, from the time I couldn't see it anymore. It appeared to be well spare the stratosphere, very high and it was a very unmanageable triangle twisted object, but my companion held it appeared to be a cloud of sparkles. It harshly seemed to be a dignified roving rage of bees, if you mettle, but it equally appeared to be a instruction booklet object. I video taped it, but the object is so faint that it can emphatically be seen at all.
